Horrors of the Survivors
December 13, 2025
Reports from Lamang refugees grow more disturbing by the day. Allegations presented to the United Nations are not only being confirmed but often turn out to be even worse than initially described. Survivors paint a picture of Lamang as a living hell, where human life was treated as less valuable than that of insects.
“It was unbearable. It felt like we were imprisoned our entire lives,” said refugee Siluck Suriyajak. “I’ve had anxiety since childhood. Now, for the first time, I feel like I can finally breathe. I no longer have to live in fear that saying the wrong thing could get me reported to the secret police by my neighbor.”
The hope now is that refugees will be able to overcome their trauma and rebuild their lives in countries that do not terrorize their own citizens.
UN Remains Silent
The United Nations has declined to comment on the situation in Lamang.
An official inquiry was submitted, but no response had been received by the time of publication.
Interview — Kaysone Phouma
Q: Mr. Phouma, as the leader of the Lamang opposition in exile, what is your perspective on the current events?
A: It's a disgrace that the UN failed to act sooner. We've been warning them for years about the regime’s oppressive tactics and shady dealings. Now there’s been an explosion that shook the entire island, likely caused by Narith Sayavong himself, and the vast majority of the population has been forced to evacuate.
Q: You were recently arrested while attempting to go to Lamang. Why did you want to go there?
A: Because I want to witness the fall of the regime with my own eyes. I want to help rebuild my homeland and drive out the evil that has ruled it for decades. I also want to support those left behind by UNLRA, people who have no one else. They need leadership, compassion, and a path to survival in a country that no longer functions.
Q: Lamang is known for its long-reigning presidents — Bounnhang Sayasone, Raksmei Sayavong, and Narith Sayavong. Are you also planning to pursue the presidency?
A: Don’t compare President Bounnhang Sayasone to the others. Yes, he served for many years, but always within the boundaries of the constitution, and he won fair elections. As the leader of the exiled opposition, I will naturally run for president. But I won’t impose anything on the people. There will be free and fair elections. That’s a promise.
Q: Thank you for your time and insights, Mr. Phouma.
A: You’re welcome. Free Lamang!

Good day,
I want to thank you for your report on Lamang. Most newspapers barely mention the country, if at all, and when they do, it's buried somewhere on page five.
