Lamang Awakens
January 22, 2026
Despite the international quarantine, Lamang is far from silent. Persistent rumors suggest that several private military companies have managed, despite considerable difficulty, to breach the blockade and infiltrate the abandoned nation.
One confirmed presence is the Lamang Recovery Initiative (LRI), a group that, according to its website, was founded to locate and assist any survivors left behind after the United Nations’ withdrawal.
“We are finishing what the UN started. Due to the poorly executed evacuation by UNLRA, there are still vulnerable people left on the island. We refuse to let them die. That’s why we’re taking action, even if it goes against the UN’s wishes,” said an LRI spokesperson.
Unverified reports also suggest the presence of other PMCs, including Mithras Security Systems (MSS) and Crimson Shield International (CSI). Neither company has commented on their alleged activities in Lamang.
Despite the ongoing crisis, the national government of Lamang insists it remains in control.
“We want to send a clear message to any international organizations or individuals foolish enough to try and steal from our nation: we are still here, and we will defend our land against any intruders. Do not come to Lamang. It is not safe for you,” stated Vice President Jan Park.
Interview — Andrew Bennett, Ph.D.
Q: Dr. Bennett, could you explain the role of PMCs in Lamang?
A: Certainly. The power vacuum in Lamang has attracted a range of individuals and organizations looking to exploit the situation for their gain. Getting past the UN blockade is difficult, but certainly not impossible. These PMCs are clearly trying to secure whatever knowledge lies behind the Event for their employers, even if they try to disguise their presence as a \"humanitarian mission.\"
Q: Do you have a hypothesis about what might have caused the massive explosion?
A: I’m convinced it wasn’t any known weapon of mass destruction, despite what Dr. Bell and others have suggested. It was likely some experimental device… or perhaps something entirely unknown to us.
Q: Are you implying it might have been extraterrestrial? We know you, like Avi Loeb, have supported the alien-origin hypothesis regarding the ʻOumuamua object.
A: It could have been a device unfamiliar to the broader scientific community, one that either malfunctioned or worked precisely as intended. Lamang is a very secretive nation. That said, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of an extraterrestrial origin. PMCs wouldn’t be taking such risks if they didn’t believe the payoff would be truly extraordinary.
Q: Thank you, Dr. Bennett.
A: My pleasure. Stay open-minded.

Letters to the Editor
I’m getting fed up with all the news about Lamang. Isn’t there anything else happening in the world?
Chris J.
Dear Chris,
Even when Lamang makes the front page, we continue to report on many other topics as well.
You just need to conquer your fear of turning pages and read a bit beyond the cover.
