Mysteries Regarding The Event
December 15, 2025
The Event, as the mysterious explosion in Lamang has come to be known, remains shrouded in secrecy. The UN has yet to provide an official explanation for the island’s total quarantine, and experts remain divided on its cause.
“We’ve spoken with numerous refugees from Lamang, as well as tourists who were there at the time, and their accounts of The Event vary wildly. Some described strange phenomena in the sky, while others claimed to hear voices speaking directly to them. It’s all incredibly bizarre,” reported our correspondent from a refugee camp in Indonesia.
For now, the true nature of The Event remains unknown. All that can be said with certainty is that whatever lies at Ground Zero, the epicenter of the blast, is being kept carefully hidden.
Organized Crime Eyes Lamang
According to reports, organized crime groups from neighboring countries have slipped through the UN quarantine.
With the island abandoned and effectively lawless, Lamang now appears to be a golden opportunity for criminal enterprises.
Interview — Andrew Bennett, Ph.D.
Q: Dr. Bennett, what’s your hypothesis on why the accounts of The Event vary so drastically?
A: It’s possible the explosion was chemical in nature, causing neurological effects in those exposed. Another theory is that it may have been some form of experimental cognitive weapon. Either way, the conflicting testimonies make research into The Event extremely challenging.
Q: There are reports that criminal groups have infiltrated Lamang despite the UN quarantine. What should we expect from them?
A: They’re drawn to Lamang like moths to a flame. With much of the country abandoned in a hurry, they’ll attempt to exploit the situation, looting unguarded homes and resources.
Q: According to our sources, dictator Narith Sayavong and the Lamang military have not left the country. What does that suggest?
A: They’ll likely concentrate on securing key areas. Sayavong has always ruled through fear, and I expect his regime will double down on violence and control in an attempt to stabilize the situation and reassert dominance over what remains of the population.
Q: Thank you, Dr. Bennett.
A: My pleasure.

Letters to the Editor
Hello,
I’ve been following all the news about Lamang, and I don’t understand why the UN allowed people from the island to leave. We still don’t know what The Event really was. They could be carrying some unknown disease or something equally dangerous.
Ava T.
Dear Ava,
The UNLRA has assured that all evacuees were thoroughly screened, and no evidence of disease or contamination linked to The Event has been found.
Let’s avoid fueling unnecessary fear or panic.
